Is your pet having an emergency? Call us now!
It is our goal as a veterinary hospital to be a part of every pet's health journey from birth to the rainbow bridge. We have served many pets for their entire lives: we see them grow, we see them heal, we see them struggle and succeed. And of course, we see them when they are passing on.
We strongly believe that every animal is sentient, so they deserve the same care and respect as any other living being. We provide an experience that is conscious of those sensibilities, and gives you the space and safety to mourn properly and be present in their final moments.
Happy Tails wants you to feel comfortable with the decision to euthanize, we will do everything we can to provide you the education, services, and medications to keep your pet healthy and live as long as they can with comfort and ease.
Unfortunately, even the best we can do is not enough. We will always perform a "Quality of Life" exam before any decision is made final. The doctor in charge of your pet's case will perform a physical exam and go over past and current complications to gauge their comfort level and survivalability.
If the exam indicates that euthanasia is the best option, we will provide you with a calm, quiet, and softly lit room with chairs and a bed, and all the time you need to be with your pet in their final moments.
While you and your pet are with us through this process, we provide several items and services as part of your visit:
Happy Tails will process the paperwork and handle the remains on your behalf in order for your pet to be cremated. You have the option to either the have ashes returned to you in a commemorative urn or have the ashes scattered communally. In terms of memoribilia we offer:
As a clinical social worker licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, and a board-
approved social work supervisor, I have over twenty years of experience working with children, families, couples, adults, and businesses. My expertise lies in managing anxiety, burnout/compassion fatigue,
depression, life transitions, loss/grief, relationship issues, stress, trauma, and promoting workplace wellness.
I am extensively trained and experienced in providing evidence-based therapies such as cognitive
behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness cognitive therapy, among others.
As a wife and mother to two remarkable sons, as well as several cherished pets including two dogs (Luke Skybarker and Lily) and two cats (Lia and Lark), my journey through numerous life transitions, including the loss of our beloved Sam and Luffy, has endowed me with deep compassion, insights, and
understanding.
In addition to my own experiences, I have had the honor of assisting and counseling numerous individuals grieving the loss of their beloved pets over the years. It has been profoundly rewarding to contribute to their healing journey during such a difficult time and to honor the memory of their companions.
I offer individual, couples, and family sessions to address pet loss/grief and end-of-life decisions for pet parents and their families.
It would be an honor to work with you!
I am offering these services to mutual clients of myself and Happy Tails Veterinary Hospital for $200 per
60-minute session. Additional service packages also available.
I look forward to connecting with you and assisting you in your journey.
